Colder weather can affect your tire pressure ratings, and you’re going to want to make sure those are still up to manufacturer standards.
Second, check your heating system for any possible issues; trust me, when it is 25 degrees, and you’re driving across state lines to visit relatives for Christmas dinner, you’re going to want that heating system to operate in all of its glory.
Because of the warmth you’ll be needing. Therefore, it is imperative to have your antifreeze and cooling system checked to ensure you won’t have that hard-working engine overheating anytime soon.
We can’t forget to mention the importance of having your battery checked for the impending cold weather to keep your systems operating at total capacity.
If you have a 4WD vehicle, you’re going to want to get your fluids checked to ensure that a more active system in possible slick situations can operate at its most total capacity.

Does Your Chevrolet Need New Tires?
“A vehicle is only as useful as the tires it sits on.” I’m sure if automobiles were around in 500 B.C. that would be an ancient Chinese proverb. With the exception of the engine and brakes, few automotive components affect your vehicle’s performance more than your set of tires, which means it’s vital to ensure that they’re kept in good condition and replaced as soon as they’ve become worn. Aside from propelling you forward, tires play a substantial role in your vehicle’s traction and braking. It doesn’t matter if your vehicle has an advanced all-wheel drive system when you’re running on flats – you’re still going to slide in wet road conditions. So without further ado, here are some tips on how to maintain your tires, as well as how to inspect whether or not you’re due for a new set.
- Make sure your tires are consistently inflated to the recommended levels your vehicle requires. You can find your vehicle’s optimal tire pressure either in the owner’s manual or on the white sticker inside your driver’s side door frame. Underinflated tires create more stress on your engine to propel them, and result in poorer fuel economy. Over inflated tires will cause uneven wear on the tread, as well as increase their chance of exploding on contact with a foreign object at highway speeds.
- If possible, avoid damaged roads on your daily commute. If you have an option of which route to take, opt for the newer road with less potholes or loose gravel.

- Never replace tires one or two at a time if the others are significantly used. This will result in uneven tread and traction between different tires in various stages of their lifespan.
- Don’t do burnouts in the super-market parking lot! Save that for your next airport rental car.
If you do suspect that your tires are beginning to become worn, here are some warning signs to look out for:
- Your vehicle’s ride is harsher than you remember. You feel the bumps in the road more, and there’s more road noise.
- Your vehicle’s handling in inclement weather has noticeable degraded. You feel yourself slipping around turns.
- Your tires have uneven tread, balding edges, or visible wiring.
Maryland state inspections require all tires to measure at least 2/32 of an inch to pass. Besides taking your vehicle to a mechanic or purchasing a tire depth gauge, there’s a really simple trick to tell whether or not you need new tires, and it only costs a penny! Simply locate a spot on your tire where the tread appears to be the shallowest. Insert the penny with Lincoln’s head first into the tread. If you can see the top of Abe’s head, your tread is too shallow and you should seriously consider new tires. 2021 Chevrolet Corvette Overview
The 2021 Chevrolet Corvette C8 marks the second year of the eight generation of America’s most iconic sports car. While Corvettes have always pushed the engineering envelope, this new mid-engine layout is perhaps the most radical transformation the model has ever undergone. It’s still a Corvette; a comfortable and relatively affordable sports car you can drive daily, only now it truly competes with exotics twice its price.
The most drastic change is of course the engine placement. Every Corvette produced since the nameplate’s inception in 1953 has had a V8 engine in the front. The 2021 Corvette features a mid-mounted 6.2 liter LT2 V8 engine, rated at 490 horsepower and 470 lb./ft. of torque. Those numbers allow it to sprint to 60 mph from a dead stop in under 3 seconds, as well as attain a top speed of 194 mph on a racetrack. Even though this new engine produces more horsepower and torque than the outgoing C7 Corvette, it still improves on its predecessor’s EPA fuel economy rating by 2 mpg on the highway. The 2021 Corvette is rated at 15 mpg city and 27 mpg highway on premium fuel. The only transmission choice is an 8-speed dual clutch, sadly for the first time ever there is no option for a manual transmission. Only a single part has been carried over from the prior generation.

Unlike the soft-tops of prior ‘Vettes, the 2020 model will feature the first ever retractable hardtop in the venerable sports car’s history. At only 77 pounds heavier than the coupe, the 2021 Corvette Convertible also refuses to sacrifice any cargo capacity, with the same 12.6 cubic feet of storage as the hardtop. The convertible hardtop is available both in body color or carbon flash. Both models can be painted from your choice of 12 eye-popping colors such as Long Beach Red Metallic and Sebring Orange Tintcoat. A multitude of interior colors are available as well, ranging from the standard Jet Black and Cool Gray to sporty Twilight Blue and Adrenaline Red.
Both the 2021 Corvette Coupe and 2021 Corvette Convertible are available in 3 trim levels – 1LT, 2LT and 3LT. 1LT is the “base” model. Standard features included a Bose 10-speaker premium audio system, an 8 inch touchscreen infotainment display featuring Apple Carplay, Android Auto and a 4G LTE Wifi Hotspot. Heated and ventilated leather GT1 seats round out the interior luxuries. Step up to the 2LT and the infotainment display comes preloaded with navigation software. 2021 Chevrolet Malibu Overview
The 2021 Chevrolet Malibu represents the 6th model year of the 9th generation of the bowtie brand’s iconic midsize sedan. Having just received a mid-cycle facelift, not much has drastically changed for the 2021 model year. Gone are to exterior colors – Stone Gray Metallic and Cajun Red Tintcoat, replaced by the eye-catching Cherry Red Tintcoat, which first made its initial appearance on the Chevrolet Camaro. Just like the previous year, the 2021 Chevrolet Malibu is available in 5 distinct trims: L, LS, RS, LT and Premier.
The 2021 Chevrolet Malibu is available with two turbocharged engine options, a 1.5L capable of 160 horsepower and 184 lb./ft. of torque and a beefier 2.0L 4 cylinder capable of 250 horsepower and 260 lb./ft. of torque. That power is sent exclusively to the front wheels regardless of which engine or trim is chosen. Equipped with the standard 1.5L engine option, the 2021 Chevrolet Malibu attains 29 mpg in the city, 36 mpg on the highway for a combined EPA MPG of 32 MPG. Each engine is mated to a standard 9 speed automatic transmission. While the base Malibu L sits on 16’’ alloy wheels, rims up to 19’’ are available depending on the selected trim level. The exterior can be made to appear even more upscale with optional LED headlights and taillights.
Inside, all Chevrolet Malibu models come standard with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. A wireless 4G LTE WIFI hotspot is also available. There’s also a new “Buckle to Drive” safety system in addition to all of the other standard features, including: Forward Collision Alert, Lane Change Alert with Blind Zone Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, Rear Park Assist, Front Pedestrian Braking, Intellibeam High Beam Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Automatic Parking Assist and Automatic Emergency braking. All Chevrolet Malibu sedans seat 5 on either cloth or leather upholstered seating surfaces, depending on the trim level.
The newest addition to the 2021 Chevrolet Malibu is the optional Sport Edition Package. This option can be added to almost any Malibu trim, and enhances the sporty appearance of the vehicle with blacked out effects. All badging is blacked out, as is the grille and 19’’ painted alloys the Malibu sits on. It is available with any color except Mosaic Black Metallic, which receives its nearly identical Midnight Edition package.
